SV 4-H History

Our Club began with one family five years ago.  As newcomers to the Valley, they searched for a 4-H Club in our area, to no avail.  They joined an existing club in the Las Vegas area before starting the Sandy Valley 4-H club.  Mr. and Mrs. Wadley were both active in 4-H as children and teenagers and wanted the same experience for their children and their new community.

Sandy Valley 4-H Club was formed in 2006, receiving its charter in 2008.  In the early days the only project group was the market swine and the club consisted of one family.  Darby Wadley received Reserve Grand Champion in 2007 and his name is forever placed on the wall of champions in the livestock barn at the Clark County Fair Grounds.  Chasen Young and Madeline Wadley have received first place in their class for showmanship and second in their division.

While participating in the county fair, Mrs. Wadley noticed a key component lacking from the competitions, and that was the Demonstration Contests.  Sandy Valley 4-H Club has run the demonstration contests for the past three years, tripling its participation.  Judging panels have been made up of various leaders and community volunteers from the Las Vegas area.  Chasen has placed first in his division for County Demonstration every year he has entered.   We have several members that have placed in the top at county demonstration competitions.  Sandy Valley 4-H Club has taken the top placing in every age category.

Sandy Valley 4-H Club also has the largest Clover Bud participation at the County Fair, competing in demonstration, poultry showmanship, sheep showmanship, and fine arts exhibits.  Our Clover Buds also compete at local and county level rodeos, gymkhanas, and trail and equine events.

Our club has grown from its original 3 members to 15 members today.  Our past projects have included livestock, cake decorating, taking a best of show award in 2009 at the County Fair in Logandale, and sewing.  Our current projects include market swine, poultry, horsemanship, and Navajo Wool.

Our little 4-H Club has made its presence known throughout Clark County and Nevada.  We have a reputation of being honest, hardworking individuals with a competitive edge that has earned us the respect of our peers.

Our 4-H Club has produced:
  • Sandy Valley High School Valedictorian
  • Numerous Sandy Valley High School council members and leaders
  • Athletic team captains and leaders
  • County teen council members and County 4-H council vice president
We, as a club and as individual competitors, have received numerous awards and prizes including: Saddles, belt buckles, grooming supplies, gift cards, trophies, ribbons, and may other miscellaneous items.

Being affiliated with Sandy Valley 4-H Club makes you a winner in every arena.  We are using or heads, our hearts, our hands, and our health to make the best better.
